When HURST Jaws of Life® began planning its support of a local American Cancer Society event, it quickly found a way to ride the wave of excitement surrounding the company’s recent launch of its eDRAULIC® Watertight Extrication Tool (EWXT) line of rescue tools that can be used underwater. The solution? Adding a little H2O to its sponsorship of the Relay for Life of Cleveland County.
The team from HURST, which is headquartered in the picturesque town of Shelby, North Carolina, sponsored a booth at the annual Relay for Life of Cleveland County, an event designed to help raise money for cancer awareness and prevention, support those suffering from cancer and remember those we’ve lost.
Relay for Life of Cleveland County themed the all-day event Birthday Party, and Jaws of Life tied into the birthday theme in the most logical way: with a Baby Shark birthday party.
EWXT tool demonstrations

The HURST booth was decorated for a party with streamers, balloons, and shark-shaped pinatas. It also included a baby pool for water games and a water tank display where HURST Jaws of Life offered EWXT tool demonstrations.
Among the HURST team’s other activities to bring its sponsorship to life: team members wore and sold custom-designed T-shirts with its EWXT spreader emerging from the water like a shark, and 100 percent of the proceeds from T-shirt sales benefited Relay for Life of Cleveland County.
Part of Cleveland County
“It’s important for us to take care of the community we call home, and our second annual sponsorship of Relay for Life of Cleveland County was a wonderful way to give back,” said Ellie Mulcahy, General Manager for the Shelby-based HURST Jaws of Life.
Ellie Mulcahy adds, “Through the event, our team members were able to tap into their creative side, spend time with co-workers and support a cause that has touched so many of our lives. We’re grateful to be part of Cleveland County and thank all who made this past weekend possible.”
New line from HURST
HURST Jaws of Life also donated a gift basket to Relay for Life of Cleveland County’s Basket Bonanza, where attendees made monetary donations for a chance to win prize packs donated by sponsors and community businesses. The HURST basket invited the winner to enjoy a day outdoors with items including a sports chair, hat, water bottle, wireless speaker, lunch bag, and more sporting the HURST Jaws of Life logo.
While this new line from HURST is a game-changer for the industry as the first battery-powered rescue tool that can be used safely underwater, HURST Jaws of Life looks forward to more opportunities to be a game-changer for its community as well.
