What is Firefighter Health and Safety?

Firefighters face many risks to health and safety, both in the line-of-duty and as a result of long-term health damage from contact with hazardous materials and stress. Fire departments must have a Risk Management Plan and Safety Policy to prevent and mitigate these risks. The NFPA stipulates that fire departments must implement a program to prevent death, injury, illness and exposure to hazardous materials.
