Hosted at seven venues across the UK, educational CPD-certified events are designed to benefit anyone working in the fire industry from fire safety managers in tall buildings to fire engineers, installers, consultants, housing associations, and other key influencers. Running from September to November 2022, each event will feature four seminars (listed below) worth a total of 4 hours CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points. Integrated Fire Alarm Solutions Guidance for high-rise residential buildings says the likelihood of false alarms means communal fire systems are a bad idea. However, the dangers of a delayed FRS response are all too evident post-Grenfell. Aimed at fire engineers, installers, consultants, and housing professionals, this seminar explores an exciting new approach using false alarm-resistant fire detectors in flats connected to a communal system via ‘Hush Buttons’ that can be operated whilst standing at floor level. This can minimize the chance of false alarms and, crucially, ensure the emergency services are alerted if there is a real fire, especially vital for elderly and disabled residents. Evacuation Alert Systems Building Regulations states that evacuation alert systems must be installed in all new residential buildings With the Government’s latest amendment to the Building Regulations stating that evacuation alert systems must be installed in all new residential buildings over 18m from 1 December 2022, there’s never been a better time to learn all about BS 8629:2019 particularly if someone is a consultant, fire engineer or work in the housing sector. This hugely informative seminar gives a detailed overview of the Code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats and highlights the various solutions available. Hearing Assistance Solutions The Equality Act states that anyone offering goods, facilities, or services to the public must make 'reasonable' adjustments to ensure they do not discriminate directly or indirectly against hearing impaired people A must-attend for compliance professionals, specifiers, consultants, and specialist engineers, this seminar summarizes exactly what the Act recommends, provides an overview of hearing assistance solutions, and describes how audio-frequency hearing loop, infrared, Wi-Fi, and speech transfer systems work, their pros and cons and typical applications. Reducing false alarms Attendees will gain a good understanding of which devices to employ to detect different types of fire How do different types of fires develop and what are the best devices to detect them? Aimed at fire engineers, housing professionals, and consultants, this new seminar explores the properties of fire and examines how Heat, Smoke, and CO (Carbon Monoxide) are best detected. By highlighting the pros and cons of various fire detector types, from simple but effective conventional technology to programmable devices with sophisticated algorithms, attendees will gain a good understanding of which devices to employ to detect different types of fire AND significantly reduce false alarms in high-rise, mixed-use and other residential buildings. Event information The events will run from 10am to 3pm with registration starting at 9.30am. Refreshments and a buffet lunch will also be provided. Authority comment Andy Green, C-TEC’s Marketing Manager, said: “We are delighted to be launching another series of CPD events which are designed to be of interest to anyone involved in the specification and installation of life safety systems particularly housing professionals, fire engineers and consultants.” “Demand is expected to be high so we would advise anyone who is interested to register their interest quickly.” Assessed by independent experts All of C-TEC’s CPD (Continuing Professional Development) seminars have been assessed by independent experts as being suitable for an intermediate audience meaning both novices and experienced participants are likely to benefit.
