ZZEUS Training has expanded its portfolio of industry-specialized qualifications to include the long-awaited first-ever mandatory NVQ for fire alarm engineers.

The EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Providing Electronic Fire and Security Systems is the qualification necessary for fire alarm engineers to independently operate on fire alarm systems. This qualification acts as a crucial stepping stone toward the Experienced Worker Assessment, a prerequisite for obtaining the esteemed ECS FESS Fire Alarm Technician Gold Card.

This initiative follows crucial safety reforms post-Grenfell, emphasizing the necessity for proper industry training among Fire Alarm Engineers.

Hands-on fire alarm training

The company stands as the sole training provider in England collaborating with EAL

The first four Fire Alarm Engineers to complete the ZZEUS qualification: Shaun Wright, Daren Pool, Gary Flockton, and John Watts were honored with their certificates by Dame Judith Hackitt, Chair of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety post-Grenfell, and a board member of EAL.

Commending ZZEUS Training as “Pioneers in fire system training,” Hackitt joined Al Parkes, EAL’s Managing Director, in celebrating this achievement in London.

Headquartered in Lincoln, ZZEUS has remained at the forefront of the fire industry and has become an industry favorite for hands-on fire alarm training. Currently, the company stands as the sole training provider in England collaborating with EAL to offer the full NVQ certification.

fire alarm system credentials

Dr. Tom Brookes, Chairman of the Fire and Security Association (FSA) and Managing Director at ZZEUS has been a resident in the fire industry for over 30 years. He was the UK’s first Chartered Engineer based solely on fire alarm system credentials and is heavily involved with assessing and auditing for the NVQ.

He remarked, "I'm immensely dedicated to enhancing competency in the fire alarm sector, and it's fantastic to witness four Fire Alarm Engineers from ZZEUS achieve the NVQ. This milestone signifies a substantial leap towards ensuring that those managing fire alarm systems are highly skilled professionals, prioritizing safety for lives and buildings."

Flexibility of the program

Dr. Tom Brookes emphasized the flexibility of the program, stating, "Experienced engineers no longer need to return to college for qualifications; they can work at their own pace alongside myself and our experienced trainer, Buddy, to achieve this certification and stay compliant."

Registration for the NVQ is now open on the ZZEUS website.
