Crowds were given the chance to meet emergency service workers and see the vital work they do to keep the people of Yorkshire safe.

Emergency Services Day at The Piece Hall in Halifax on Sunday saw hundreds of people getting an insight into the work of 999 staff, including firefighters, police, and ambulance crews.

The event saw West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) join forces with West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team. Calderdale SmartMove was also supporting the event with a stall and tombola.

WYFRS took along two fire engines from Halifax while Halifax's blue watch showed the public their road traffic collision equipment. The water team from Rastrick Fire Station had a water flume and boat at the event where they spoke about the dangers of jumping into cold water.

Laura Boocock, District Commander for Calderdale, said, “The response we had on Sunday was incredible and the children were so excited to see everyone there. Yorkshire Ambulance had their mobile CPR unit, police had vehicles and dogs and there was also the air ambulance and Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team there."

Laura Boocock adds, “It was great to chat to people and tell them about the important work we do while seeing families having lots of fun. It is my favorite day of the year and a massive thank you to the crews and volunteers that made the day such a success.”
