Woolpert was contracted to conduct a facility conditions assessment study of 24 facilities for the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department.

The study’s findings, finalized in March, identified an estimated $22 million in needed repairs over the next 10 years with $12 million estimated for the most urgent repairs and improvements.

Report recommendations

The study attributed much of the projected costs to roofing, HVAC systems, windows, and upgrades to kitchens and bathrooms that would bring the buildings up to date and prioritize the health and safety of firefighters and other personnel who use the buildings on a regular basis.

The report also provided a detailed cost analysis of priority repairs and upgrade recommendations for 18 of the city’s active fire stations and six support buildings, many of which are nearing or over 50 years old.

Goodell said the assessment advances Woolpert’s reputation as a strategic and reliable partner

Woolpert Senior Consultant - Jessica Goodell said that while Woolpert has extensive facility condition assessment experience, including providing services for Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, this was the first time Woolpert provided assessment services for a metropolitan fire department.

Goodell said the assessment advances Woolpert’s reputation as a strategic and reliable partner to the Ohio market as well as municipal departments nationwide.

Strategic spending

While we have proudly served the city of Toledo in the past, this was our first opportunity to provide services for Toledo Fire & Rescue,” said Jessica Goodell, adding “We hope that the study and its results enable the department to not only spend their current funding more strategically but also to assist the department as it seeks additional funding and grants for continued improvements.”
