Arriving this month at the Wayne Fire Department's fire house (POL Fire Company #2), located in Wayne, New Jersey, is a new and fully customized Toyne Pumper. Better known as POL (Property Owner's League) Fire Company #2, their new pumper not only adds more capabilities to their existing fleet, but it also upholds a long-standing tradition of honoring fellow firefighters.
Wayne Fire Department
Established in 1922, Wayne Fire Department (POL Fire Company #2) has served the residents of Wayne, New Jersey, and the surrounding communities for nearly 100 years. The volunteer fire department protects a territory that covers 24 square miles and more than 60,000 residents, while also providing mutual aid to several other communities and the New York City metro area.
Annually, the POL Fire Company #2 department responds to over 650 emergency calls
Annually, the POL Fire Company #2 department responds to over 650 emergency calls. On-call 24/7, the dedicated volunteers of the fire department are trained to deal with various emergency scenarios, beyond the usual calls of fire breakout incidents, including occurrences of flooding that frequently impact their area. This Toyne Tailored Apparatus bolsters the fire and rescue department’s ability to respond to any sort of emergency call effectively.
Toyne Pumper
Wayne Fire Department’s Toyne pumper body is mounted on a Spartan Gladiator LFD chassis. Under the hood is a 500-HP Cummins ISX 12 engine and Allison 4000 EVS transmission, at the ready for rapid response.
This particular cab has a 10-inch raised roof and boasts enough seating for a crew of six. The interior is also equipped with a back-up camera, in-cab mounted flashlights, additional storage, and EMS compartments with exterior access.
Bolted painted stainless steel body
Stall built with a bolted painted stainless steel body, the Toyne Pumper is designed to meet the needs of the fire department efficiently. ROM painted roll-up doors provide fast access to the various storage compartments that flank both sides of the apparatus.
Utilizing every inch of space, there are in-compartment mounted tool boards, Toyne custom slide-out shelving, wheel well SCBA storage slots (eight bottles), under step storage, and more tailor-made storage.
Fitted with Innovative Controls tank gauge
Several water intake and discharge points can be found on each side of the pumper
For the department’s pumping needs, Toyne fitted the apparatus with a 750-gallon UPF tank, 1,500-GPM Hale Qmax pump, Hale FoamLogix 5.0 Class B foam system, and a 50-gallon foam tank. An Innovative Controls tank gauge and Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor allow the firefighters to monitor and select water discharge parameters.
Several water intake and discharge points can be found on each side of the pumper. A booster reel mounted in the rear of the body allows for additional flexibility when responding to calls.
Full suite of emergency lighting fixtures
A full suite of emergency lighting fixtures ensures high visibility on the road. This setup includes Whelen warning lighting, Firetech HiViz 72-inch LED brow light, Whelen LED arrow stick, and front-mounted Roto-Ray.
Abundant scene lighting is taken care of by Whelen PFH2 LED and Fire Research telescoping lights. To account for the electrics onboard, an Onan 10,000-watt hydraulic generator assists in supplying power.
Toyne Tailored Apparatus
“This fire department's Toyne Tailored Apparatus is meticulously built and fully equipped for the current and future fire service needs of their communities,” said Bill Bird, Toyne Product Support Coordinator, adding “It is our honor to work with the firefighters of Wayne POL and make their vision of a response-ready pumper a reality.”
