The Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection eV (vfdb) has presented the working principle of water mist in a leaflet. At the same time, the different water mist technologies are described.
The experts provide an overview of the basics and possible applications as well as the limitations of water mist extinguishing systems. The distinction from other extinguishing technologies such as sprinkler systems, water spray extinguishing systems, and gas extinguishing systems is also explained.
fine spray technology
This means that even more careful planning is required when using water mist technology
As shown in the paper, the experience from fire tests is not yet as extensive as with classic sprinkler systems. This means that even more careful planning is required when using water mist technology.
Water mist is known internationally as “water mist” and in Germany also as fine spray technology. This refers to extinguishing water that is sprayed in droplets with a diameter of less than one millimeter.
Planning and installation of systems
The information sheet is aimed particularly at people who regularly work with such systems. These include operators, fire protection officers, architects, and planners. They will also be given decision-making assistance for choosing the right water mist system.
Among other things, it is recommended to use products that have been tested by an accredited laboratory. In addition, the installation company must have independent certification for the planning and installation of such extinguishing systems. The complete vfdb information sheet MB 14-02: Water mist extinguishing systems can be downloaded under the information sheets.
