Shuttle warehouses, vertical storage lift systems and paternoster/carousel or flow racks in many cases perfectly meet the high demands of economical automated small parts logistics, as they ensure compact storage of stocks with maximum temporal and spatial availability of the goods.

In areas with a high concentration of valuables, with highly sensitive stored goods or in areas with a generally high fire load, special requirements are placed on fire protection in these storage systems. At the LogiMAT from March 19 to 21, WAGNER will be presenting the gas extinguishing system FirExting®, which is an excellent fire protection solution in these areas of application, at stand C15 in hall 7.

Gas extinguishing system

In closed systems with highly compressed storage, fires can spread very quickly. The earliest possible fire detection enables rapid intervention using extinguishing systems and thus prevents major damage.

In closed systems with highly compressed storage, fires can spread very quickly

The highly sensitive TITANUS® aspirating smoke detection systems detect even the smallest smoke particles in the storage system by constantly taking air samples, thus preventing false alarms. If a fire is detected, a fire extinguishing system is then triggered - in the case of WAGNER's holistic fire protection, this is the FirExting® gas extinguishing system .

Preventing false alarms

Extinguishing gases can fight incipient fires quickly and reliably without causing damage or leaving residues on buildings, electrical systems and goods. The principle of gas extinguishing with FirExting ® is simple: If a fire is detected and the alarm is reported to the gas extinguishing system via the extinguishing control center, an optical and acoustic alarm is initially triggered.

The FirExting ® gas extinguishing system is then triggered and the area to be protected is gently flooded with extinguishing gas via a special pipe system within the shortest possible time - subject to the set delay device for any area evacuation. The extinguishing gas is distributed evenly throughout the entire storage system and the extinguishing agent concentration is then maintained for a defined period of time to ensure effectiveness.

Different extinguishing gases

Depending on the fire risk and fuel, different extinguishing gases can be selected for FirExting®

Depending on the fire risk and fuel, different extinguishing gases can be selected for FirExting®: inert gases or chemical gases. Both types remove the basis of the fire and thus prevent the fire from developing further at a very early stage. Inert gases suffocate the source of the fire by displacing oxygen from its surroundings.

Chemical extinguishing gases remove the necessary (heat) energy from the fire and thereby extinguish the fire. The rapid extinguishing result minimizes the occurrence of consequential fire damage, which can be harmful to the environment. Goods and valuables are effectively protected from damage caused by fire, water-based extinguishing agents or smoke contamination.

Water-based extinguishing agents

Extinguishing gases are not electrically conductive and therefore pose no risk of short circuits. The inert gases used do not form chemical bonds with other substances when fighting fires, even at high temperatures, and therefore extinguish fires completely without leaving any residue.

Since inert gases are essentially infinitely available as a component of the ambient air, the gas extinguishing tanks can be refilled very quickly in this case. This ensures their sustainable use. After using FirExting®, operations in the warehouse can usually be resumed at short notice.

Fire extinguishing system

Fire protection from WAGNER is tested, certified and complies with standards. The WAGNER systems TITANUS® and FirExting® have been certified by VdS. With FirExting®, a variable system structure for one or more protection areas is possible.

The fire extinguishing system is also used, for example, in high-bay warehouses, in hazardous materials warehouses, in data centers, control, measurement and control rooms, in industrial plants and production areas.
