The Viking Corporation, a global provider of fire protection and life safety systems, has added four new institutional sprinkler models specifically designed for use in correctional facilities, mental health occupancies, or anywhere that tampering with fire sprinklers is a concern.

Available in both pendent and horizontal sidewall models, the quick response sprinklers are available in standard and extended coverage options. The sprinkler is designed to be installed with the protective cap attached, minimizing the risk of damage to the sprinkler during installation.

Light hazard occupancy

When installed, markings clearly indicating the sprinkler’s model number and orientation are visible on the element’s face. The new sprinklers also fit flush to the ceiling or wall, with only ¼” protrusion from the finished face.

Each model is cULus Listed for light hazard occupancies, with an additional ordinary hazard occupancy listing for the VK426 pendent sprinkler.

Viking’s new institutional sprinklers are available in chrome, painted white, or painted gray and escutcheons are available in 3 or 4 inch sizes in colors to match the sprinkler. With a thread size of 1/2” NPT or 15 mm BSPT, the 5.6 (81) K-factor sprinkler can be ordered with temperature ratings of 165°F (74 °C) or 205°F (96 °C).
