The Viking Corporation, a global provider in fire protection and life safety systems, has received an FM Approval for its Model VK481 quick response (FM Approved as standard response) concealed, horizontal sidewall sprinkler.

This standard coverage sprinkler, which is also cULus Listed for Light and Ordinary Hazard applications, is fully concealed behind a flat cover plate, making it an ideal choice for applications with demanding aesthetic requirements.

Horizontal sidewall sprinklerThe VK481 can be used in any Light or Ordinary Hazard occupancy

With this new FM Approval, the 5.6 (81) K-factor Model VK481 is the fire protection industry’s UL Listed and FM Approved horizontal sidewall sprinkler with a flat cover plate. While the VK481 can be used in any Light or Ordinary Hazard occupancy, it is particularly well-suited for college residence halls, where the water savings of standard sprinkler spacing is often preferred over extended coverage sprinklers.

Additionally, the sprinkler’s flat, low-profile cover plate also makes it more difficult to hang anything from the sprinkler, reducing the potential for accidental sprinkler discharge.

Concealed sidewall sprinklers

The Model VK481 is one of four flat-plate concealed sidewall sprinklers offered by Viking, including the VK480 (4.0 K-factor) and VK490 (5.8 K-factor) residential concealed sidewall sprinklers, as well as the VK680 extended coverage model, with coverage areas up to 24 ft (6,7 m) in length.

Like all of Viking’s concealed sidewall sprinklers, the VK481 has a small takeout dimension of two inches (50 mm), allowing it to fit in a standard 2x4 stud wall. The Model VK481 is available in 165°F (74°C) and 205°F (96°C) temperature ratings, with cover plates offered in a standard white finish, and a nearly unlimited variety of custom colors.
