Vina’s endless commitment to the fire service industry stems from the untimely death of her husband, Captain John Drennan, from burns sustained while battling a fire in Manhattan, in a building that was not equipped with fire sprinklers.

Following the loss of her husband, Vina became a compassionate advocate and supporter for fire safety. She became an active part of the NFFF and the FDNY Foundation and her passionate presentations about the situation surrounding her husband’s death inspired the fire service industry to continue to recognize safety as a top priority.

Fire Service Industry

For more than 20 years, Vina has continued her dedicated efforts. Not only has she appeared on national television and radio shows, as well as published articles in several national magazines and fire trade publications, Ms. Drennan has testified at national, state and local government forums on behalf of fire safety awareness.

Ms. Drennan was a New York City public school teacher for ten years. Working with the New York State Task Force, she assisted in the development of Fire Safety Teacher Training Curriculum. In 1997, Vina received the St. Barnabus Burn Foundation Humanitarian Award and in 1995, Mayor Rudy Guiliani appointed Ms. Drennan to the New York City Committee on the Status of Women – a position she holds to this day. The Arthur J. Glatfelter Distinguished Service Award recognizes the leadership, dedication and service of individuals within the fire service industry.
