VFIS is pleased to announce that the Honorable Scott Perry of Pennsylvania in the House of Representatives has added the VFIS 50th anniversary celebration as a historic event to the Congressional Record.

In 1969, Mr. Glatfelter, a well-established insurance agent, recognized a need for specialized insurance coverage for firefighters – a coverage based on their motivations, their aspirations, their needs and the risks they were willing to assume to protect others,” says the proclamation. “He designed a portfolio of comprehensive insurance coverages that took all of these factors into account. Fifty years later, these specialized coverages remain the cornerstone on which VFIS has based its insurance program for the fire service.

As Philadelphia is both the birthplace of the first volunteer fire company in America and the nation’s insurance industry – VFIS hosted a gala there at the National Constitution Center on April 27th to honor the past, present and future of both industries. Government officials, leaders in the fire service and insurance professionals gathered to celebrate 50 years of service to emergency service organizations.
