Applied Sensor Technologies (AST), a manufacturer of standard and custom-designed RTDs and thermocouples for OEMs, process, and discrete industries, announced that their UNI5 product line of terminal head-mounted transmitters can be configured via a smartphone or tablet using Near Field Communication (NFC®) or a Bluetooth® modem.

The app makes set-up and configuration quick and simple, but also field-capable.

Configuration methods

When customers needed to make configuration changes to their RTDs and thermocouples, they would remove them from service, bring them to the shop, connect them to a computer, and configure them. Then they would have to go back and reinstall the device,” said Ken Kirkwood, UEC’s Vice President (VP) of Sales.

Ken Kirkwood adds, “Our customers have been asking for an easier method to making those configuration changes in the field, without power supply and wiring. Now they can.”

UNI5

The app is available for Android and iOS devices. Once the app is downloaded, simply position the smartphone or tablet next to the transmitter to access device settings and diagnostics.

The UNI5 can be ordered as an option on many AST thermocouples and RTD styles or can be supplied separately for users who want to upgrade their existing temperature sensor capability. The transmitter output can be either 4-20 mA or HART® protocol.
