TV Presenter, Katie Rushworth from ITV’s Love Your Garden, will be pioneering the celebrations on July 21, with the festivities kicking off at 12 noon. Until recently, the space at the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) station wasn't being used and was just covered in grass.

But thanks to firefighters, it has been transformed into a thriving space full of produce. Carrots, onions, strawberries, radishes, cherries, and Brussels sprouts are all growing happily alongside a herb patch containing mint, oregano, parsley, and chives.

Members of the local community

It’s wonderful to see how much work has gone into creating this amazing space for everyone to enjoy"

Katie Rushworth said: “I’m so excited to be part of this special event. It’s wonderful to see how much work has gone into creating this amazing space for everyone to enjoy. I can’t wait to join the firefighters and members of the local community in celebrating this achievement.”

The official opening will involve a lunch featuring some of the produce grown in the allotment.

Firefighters work hard with members of the community

Dom Creed, Watch Manager at Silsden Fire Station, said: “We are delighted that Katie Rushworth is joining us for this occasion. Firefighters have worked hard with members of the community to create something special that can be enjoyed by everyone in the town – from children learning about nature to adults enjoying some well-deserved relaxation time."

He adds, "This has been an incredible community project, with so many items donated, from a shed to bay trees and strawberry bushes. We’ve made a polytunnel from recycled materials and there is also a seating area where people can relax and enjoy the plants and flowers.”
