The Mission Fire Department located in Mission, Texas, has added more power to its firefighting efforts with the purchase of a pumper from Toyne, an Iowa-based, fire apparatus manufacturer.

The new apparatus features technology that will allow the department to better respond to calls in the Mission area. Toyne built the pumper on a Spartan Metro Star MFD 10-inch chassis, powered by the force of a Cummins ISL 450 horsepower engine. A 3000 Allison EVS transmission drives the apparatus, which also includes impressive firefighting capabilities. The UPF tank stores 1,000 gallons of water, which the Waterous pump is able to output at 1,500 gallons per minute.

Departmental firefighting efforts

This apparatus includes a TFT XFT-NJ monitor with a 12-man extension and a Foam Pro 1600 Class A foam system, which will assist in the department’s firefighting efforts. Mission, Texas is a growing city in the Rio Grande Valley, located along the United States/Mexico border. Although Mission’s population sits at 80,000 people, in combination with the neighboring cities McAllen, Edinburg, and Pharr, it makes up the fifth-most populated metropolitan area in Texas.

The city is known for its multimillion-dollar citrus industry, which the community celebrates annually with its Texas Citrus Fiesta. Municipal Fire Apparatus Specialist, located in nearby McAllen, Texas, sold the Toyne Pumper to the Mission Fire Department. The apparatus’ firefighting abilities will be a welcome addition to the department’s fleet and allow them to better serve their community.
