Les Byrom, Chairman of the Business & Community Fire Safety Forum, will deliver the keynote speech |
Starting a new decade offers the opportunity for any industry not only to reflect on what has gone before but also, more importantly, on the trends, issues and challenges that are emerging.
The 'noughties' was a period of significant change for those involved in fire safety, most notably with the introduction of the Fire Safety Order, the most significant development in fire legislation for over 30 years. The repercussions of the Order continue to be felt and will for some time to come, with businesses still getting to grips with the concept of the 'Responsible Person' and the fire community itself working hard to provide a meaningful benchmark for the all important fire risk assessments upon which the Order is founded.
The format for the full day conference, produced in association with sponsors Henderson Insurance, will be presentations from the FIA and from keynote speaker, Les Byrom, Chairman of the Business & Community Fire Safety Forum, followed by a series of seminars run concurrently in two rooms to allow delegates to focus on their particular area of interest. The conference will then finish with a networking session for all delegates.
The venue is the Sywell Aerodrome, Northampton and, during lunch, there will be a display from the Blades Aerobatic Team - the world's only globally accredited aerobatic airline - who are based at the Aerodrome.
Becky Reid, FIA Marketing Manager, comments: "We are currently finalising what is already a very impressive range of subjects that we know from our members will address the issues that they, their customers and the many parties involved in fire safety are facing. We are also ringing the changes with this year's venue. It is obviously vital to get the content right to attract the delegates but it is also important to recognise the networking opportunities, the forum for discussion and the social side that a conference offers. A 15 minute display from some of the best aerobatic pilots in the world will be an added bonus on a day that promises to be a must for the diary of anybody involved in fire safety."
