Fires are an extremely dangerous risk and there is no question that they do happen every once in a while. Therefore, over the years many different companies and inventors have tried to create systems that reduce the risk of fire or help to tackle the fires if they do start.

So, what system is the right one for a user? Thameside Fire Protection is going to run through some of the most common fire safety items from extinguishers to sprinklers. So, keep reading to find out more about how to fight fires in a home or office.

Alarm systems

Alarm systems are the first point of call when it comes to fighting fires and users should always have an alarm system fitted in either their home or office building. After all, even if users do not have any fire fighting equipment they can still get everyone out of the building as quickly as possible so everyone is safe.

There are many different types of fire alarms and users should speak with a professional to understand which alarm to have in their building. After all, if users are getting a system for home it will be far different from the office system.

Extinguishers

While they are often found in large business buildings they can be present in private homes

Fire extinguishers are the first item user will likely use if they have to fight a fire themselves. Often, these extinguishers are small in size and can be handled by one person. Users don’t need to have specific training to use one and in theory, anyone should be able to pick one up and fight a small fire.

Though they are often only reserved for smaller fires and when things get more serious this tactic should be abandoned and left to professionals. While they are often found in large business buildings they can be present in private homes as well and are often well-suited to this situation.

Sprinklers

Sprinklers are one of the most effective forms of fire mitigation and are used all around the globe in a variety of different situations. Users will likely know them from schools or large office buildings but they can also be found in open-planned homes as well.

Essentially a pipe system with either liquid water or gases is laid on the ceiling of the building and when sensors are triggered water is released and rains down on the room below.
