In all areas of Tasmania where the risk of bushfire is considered high, the State may require TAS Fire Permits during certain period. The objective of this permit is to coordinate and monitor controlled burning of vegetation and reduce the risk of spreading the fire.

Permit periods are commonly enforced from November to March or during the dry summer period; this may vary from year to year relying on the dryness of the vegetation and the risk of fire.

TAS Fire Services permits the use of fire for land regime purposes only when the conditions are acceptable and safe

During this period, TAS Fire Services permits the use of fire for land management purposes only when the conditions are acceptable and safe.

This permit applies to the burning of vegetation during a declared Fire Permit Period regardless of the weather condition.

However, barbecues, campfires or incinerators do not need fire permits as long as the conditions associated with their use is complied. TAS fire service alerts everyone to strictly adhere to the conditions of the fire permit period.

Tasmanian Fire Permit Period

To acquire a fire permit, contact the local Fire Permit Officer. The permit will include conditions to improve fire safety. Burning will only be allowed during specific weather conditions and prescribed equipment. TAS fire service should be notified, as well as the neighbors, when they intend to light the fire.
