Sepura's radio, used by police, fire and ambulance teams, will now be also be used by Swedish forces
Sepura's hand-portable radios have are built to withstand the harshest of environments

The Swedish Defence forces (“Försvarsmakten” or “FM”) have announced that they will be buying Sepura hand-portable radios for use in a wide variety of applications across their activities.

The deal was achieved by Sepura’s long-standing and respected Swedish partner, Swedish Radio Supply (“SRSAB”).

Sweden is one of a number of countries across Europe to have taken the key decision to implement a nationwide TETRA network.  Known as Rakel, the network has, until now, been used by a wide range of public authorities, such as the police, fire and ambulance organisations, as well as customs, prisons and public transport operations.  The Swedish forces have been operating a variety of analogue radio systems for their communications over the past few years, but have now opted for a unified TETRA system as a back-up for all their non-battlefield voice and data communications.

FMV has opted for Sepura STP8000 hand-portable radios, which couple a high level of functionality, such as GPS, with the ruggedness required to withstand the harshest environments. The IP55 rating and the increased coverage range offered by the DMO Repeater feature are both key aspects for military applications. For in-vehicle installation, the customer has chosen Sepura SRG3900 mobile radios.  These are fully-featured models, which offer the power, robustness and breadth of options which the FM required.

Commenting on the project, Lars-Magnus Gustafsson, Sepura’s Senior Business Development Manager responsible for the Scandinavia region commented “Not only is the Swedish forces’ move to a TETRA platform important for the development of the RAKEL network, it is also a key step for Sepura and its Swedish partner SRSAB.

Sepura’s radios offered the best combination of feature-set and robustness, but, whilst the benefits that the Sepura radios offer were crucial aspects of the winning proposal, the support and reputation of SRSAB were also key in sealing the deal.”

Jonas Hoke, RAKEL Business Manager at SRSAB added “This is one of the most important and prestigious projects that SRSAB has won in recent times.  We are very proud to be working with FM and are certain that the Sepura solution will, with SRSAB’s support, prove to be the right strategic and operational choice for them.”
