Sprue Safety Products has won the Best Marketing Campaign title at Northern Ireland’s Plumbing & Heating Awards 2014.

The company was recognised for its campaign alongside local charity Gis A Hug to keep more people safe from the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) in Northern Ireland.

The company joined forces with The Gis A Hug Foundation to help raise awareness of the dangers of CO, with Sprue donating one CO alarm to the local charity for every 20 FireAngel CO-9XT carbon monoxide alarms sold from participating wholesalers in the province. The campaign proved to be a huge success, with increased sales and the number of merchant branches participating in the promotion doubling.

The Gis A Hug Foundation was created by the parents of Neil McFerran and Aaron Davidson following the tragic deaths of the two teenagers from CO poisoning in August 2010.

The charity’s objective is to educate the public and professional bodies about the dangers of carbon monoxide and to support the vulnerable in society by having alarms installed. The donation of alarms by Sprue has helped achieve both these aims.

The judges commented: “We commend Sprue Safety Products for its innovative CSR marketing campaign with the young and growing local charity, Gis A Hug. The panel recognises that it not only produced strong results in terms of sales for its CO alarms but also helped to significantly grow awareness for this important carbon monoxide charity. The campaign also demonstrated strong use of all elements of the marketing mix in a cost effective creative campaign that reached 1.7million people.”

Over 300 people attended the gala black tie night at the Hilton Hotel, Belfast on June 12th to celebrate innovation and excellence within the plumbing and heating industry.

The biennial awards are the only ones of their kind in the province. The event attracted plumbing and heating engineers, manufacturers, plumbers’ merchants, M&E consultants and contractors to the awards night, which recognised companies and individuals across 10 categories.
