To prepare for its reopening, Scarth Memorial Hall in County Durham has chosen the Agrippa door holder to support their COVID prevention strategy and reduce door handle contact.

Agrippa door holder

Built in 1875, the Scarth Memorial Hall is a Victorian building that has served its community for over a century, such as providing facilities to soldiers during the Second World War. Ensuring that the property’s character remained intact when implementing COVID prevention measures was of high importance to the hall.

The Agrippa door holder provides a permanent solution to COVID prevention, fire safety, and accessibility. As a wire-free and battery-powered solution, the Agrippa door holder can be installed without causing damage to the property or requiring a professional electrician.

listen and learn technology

The Agrippa holder will protect the historical building by automatically closing the doors in the event of a fire

Recognized by the UK Fire and Rescue Services and compliant with EN1155, the Agrippa door holder uses ‘listen and learn’ technology to record the specific sound of the building’s fire alarm, ensuring the doors will close upon hearing this sound.

Used in replacement of a door wedge, the Agrippa holder will protect the historical building by automatically closing the doors in the event of a fire, preventing the spread of flames and toxic smoke. Scarth Memorial Hall is a village hall serving a range of people from across the local community. The venue provides a location for local community groups, performances, and private parties as well as business meetings, training, and conferences.

COVID risk assessment

As part of its journey to reopening, Scarth Memorial completed an in-depth COVID risk assessment and took several steps to ensure the hall was as safe as possible for its visitors. This included implementing a one-way system, adjusting seating, providing sanitizing areas, and installing Agrippa door holders to reduce door handle contact and better facilitate social distancing and ventilation.

Yvonne Macdonald, Treasurer at Scarth Memorial Hall, said, “We fitted the door holders to help with our COVID prevention strategy, they were straightforward to install and have done the job exactly as we wanted!
