Savannah, GA Local 574 will host the 57th annual U.S. and Canadian Professional Fire Fighters Golf Tournament in October after a one-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three-day event on October 18-20, 2021, is expected to draw hundreds of IAFF members and family members and raise $1 million in revenue for the City of Savannah. Proceeds will benefit the Local 574 Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation. The event registration will include a hotel, three rounds of golf on different courses, breakfast, and dinner each day, and an awards reception at the end.

The IAFF conducted an EMS integration study that helped the city save more than $200,000

Savannah Local 574 President Johnny Hinton is hopeful the tournament will demonstrate to city leaders the worth of Local 574 and its members in a region of the country where “union has been considered a dirty word.”

We want to show that we can bring value to Savannah and that the city can begin to work with us and not against us on public safety,” says Hinton, who adds that the IAFF conducted an EMS integration study that helped the city save more than $200,000.

Adding new members

The IAFF and locals in Georgia have made progress toward organizing professional firefighters in the state, adding several new locals and boosting members. South Fulton Local 3920 in 2019 became the first affiliate in more than 30 years to gain collective bargaining rights. Hinton says he hopes Local 574 can be the next Georgia affiliate to secure collective bargaining for its members.

Registration for the three-day tournament is going strong and President Hinton urges those interested to register soon before available space runs out.
