At 1:50 am on Friday, 5 March, RBFRS received reports of a fire at a warehouse on Headley Road East, Woodley.

In total, more than 50 firefighters were sent to the incident, along with specialist equipment, such as the Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station and the Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead Fire Station. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained.

Preventing fire spread

Crews on scene were met with heavy smoke logging from the building and on entering the warehouse, discovered a large coach within a two-storey warehouse involved in fire. The fire had also broken through the roof of the warehouse.

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus successfully extinguished the fire using two jets, preventing further fire spread to several other coaches within the warehouse and the adjoining offices and workshop areas. Crews continued to monitor the building structure using thermal imaging equipment and deployed the Aerial Ladder Platform to monitor the roof area.

Other nearby vehicles

Paul Thomas, Group Manager, said: “Our crews worked excellently alongside our blue light partners – Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service - from the very start of the incident.

Upon arrival, officers assessed the potential risks well and the quick actions of crews entering the warehouse undoubtedly prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby vehicles.” Their firefighters continue to be available to help residents and businesses in their time of need.
