POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing systems from Rosenbauer will be used to fire protect jet fighters
German Air Force placed an order with Rosenbauer for an autarkic POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system

Rosenbauer's stationary fire protection technology is deployed wherever independently actuating fire-fighting systems are required to suffocate fires immediately after they break out.

The German Air Force recently placed another order with Rosenbauer for an autarkic POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system for the test bay used by Europe's most modern jet fighter. Besides a system in Neuburg on the Danube, two other systems have already been deployed previously.

Safety check with fire hazard

The POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system will protect the aircraft hangars where safety checks are performed on the jet fighters after maintenance work. During the tests, the aircraft is hook-lifted and the engines are brought up to full thrust to check their functionality and performance. There is always a danger of piping containing easily combustible liquids that can cause fires during test operation. As well as the danger of technical leading to fires malfunctions during long-term tests. During testing, the temperatures in the engines rise to around 800 °C - this also makes it easier for fire to spread. Pilot safety is the major concern in this scenario - and this is exactly what the Rosenbauer POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system provides.

POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing systems guarantee best-of-class safety

Immediately after detecting a fire, the indoor extinguishing system is actuated manually. In contrast to CO2 fire extinguishing systems, the pilot can remain in the cockpit throughout the entire fire-fighting operation thanks to the POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system. The POLY CAFS is operational less than 10 seconds after actuation. The blanket of CAFS foam suffocates the fire. The use of water and an aqueous film forming foams (AFFF foam) guarantee maximum burn-back safety. The POLY CAFS indoor extinguishing system is fully autarkic - no external power source is required for operation. The CAFS foam's ability to adhere to the aircraft fuselage offers decisive benefits in this scenario.

Milestone in stationary fire fighting

Foam extinguishing installations have been an integral part of stationary fire protection not just on fire-fighting vehicles, but also in stationary fire protection, for years.

The major challenge in this field of application is the strict safety and documentation requirements, which are based on military standards. All systems were approved by military test authorities.
