Rosenbauer announces the delivery of their new environment protection equipment truck (GW-U) for the Henkel plant fire brigade (part of Henkel AG & Co. KgaA), in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Florian Henkel 01 GW-U-01

Considered the baby of the fleet of the Henkel plant fire brigade, the new environmental protection equipment truck features radio call name - Florian Henkel 01 GW-U-01.

In terms of design, this is a rescue vehicle in according to DIN 14555-3: 2016-12 standard, with an extended squad structure in Advanced Technology (AT). The vehicle is realized on a 2-axle chassis from MAN, with 4,500 mm wheelbase and 18 tons of gross vehicle weight.

Ample space under the structure

Four spacious equipment rooms are loaded with extensive standard and special equipment, on each side of the vehicle

This configuration primarily offers a lot of space under the structure, which can be used right down to the last corner. Four spacious equipment rooms are loaded with extensive standard and special equipment, on each side of the vehicle. In the rear, there are two roll containers on which heavier parts, such as hazardous goods pumps, are held.

They can be lowered to the level of the carriageway, using a tail lift with a load capacity of 1,500 kg. Another electrical lowering device is available for the hazardous goods hoses (8 x 5 m, DN50) stored on the roof, which are housed in pipes in a liquid-tight manner. A third lowering position makes it easier to remove the compressed air breathing apparatus, stowed in the equipment room.

Special pumps on board

Pumps for hazardous goods (diaphragm pumps) are insensitive to contamination in the conveyed goods and are therefore, also suitable for suctioning off or pumping over aggressive media, such as sludge, alkalis, solvents or fuels.

The pumps in the GW-U are powered without electricity, by a rotary air compressor installed in the vehicle, which is designed for an operating state of 3,000 l/min at 8 bar pressure. The compressed air is delivered either directly from the vehicle or via a rapid attack reel, with a length of 60 meters and a special end coupling, to which three compressed air consumers can be connected directly.

Rosenbauer EPS XS generator

The compressor is driven by one of the two power take-offs of the vehicle engine. The second drives a built-in generator (Rosenbauer EPS XS) with an output of 8 kW in order to supply electrical tools, lighting equipment and other power consumers required at the point of use with energy.

In the fire station, the vehicle is attached to a Rettbox-Air, which automatically releases, when it is started. This ensures that at every alarm time, the vehicle battery is charged before the exit and that the vehicle's braking system has sufficient compressed air (10 bar feed pressure).

Henkel Plant Fire Brigade

The Henkel plant fire brigade in Düsseldorf operates a number of other vehicles from the Rosenbauer Group

In addition to the new GW-U, the Henkel plant fire brigade in Düsseldorf operates a number of other vehicles from the Rosenbauer Group, including two universal fire-fighting vehicles on 6x4 chassis, an HLF 20 and an aerial rescue platform, with a rescue height of 42 meters, to name just the most important.

The plant fire brigade is not only responsible for Henkel AG & Co. KgaA (around 5,800 employees at the site), but also for numerous neighboring companies, located on the 1.4 sq. km site in the Düsseldorf district of Holthausen, in Germany, which includes almost 400 buildings and around provides employment to around 10,000 people.

Special fire-fighting operations training

Around 90 employees are specially trained for fire-fighting operations. Two guards are on duty for 24 hours a day, with daily duty of 40 firefighters each, seven of whom are fire protection inspectors or fire engineers.

In addition, an electrical workshop with ten employees is operated, also on a day-to-day basis. In the event of major damage inside and outside the company premises, the plant fire brigade works closely with the professional fire brigades in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.
