Rosenbauer Provides A Dynamic Trio Of New Fire Brigade Vehicles To The Wildeshausen Fire Service (Wildeshausen Volunteer Fire Department)

Three Rosenbauer ATs are the new key players in the Wildeshausen fire service fleet. They make an unbeatable team, the three new fire brigade vehicles of the Wildeshausen fire service (Wildeshausen Volunteer Fire Department) in Lower Saxony: the TLF 4000 Troop, the HLF 20, and the LF 20.

Together, they bring no less than 10,000 liters of extinguishing agent to the scene, and they have largely identical or complementary firefighting equipment on board, which is particularly suitable for fighting the forest and vegetation fires that have become more frequent recently.

Pump-and-roll operation

These vehicles are not only all-rounders and classic firefighting workhorses: the three new vehicles of the Wildeshausen fire service provide functions that are normally only found in special vehicles. This includes, for example, pump-and-roll operation, which enables them to discharge water or extinguishing agent at walking pace, even while driving.

In combination with the rapid intervention devices (installed in the same place in the vehicles), this results in an ideal extinguishing combination to quickly put out a burning forest edge or deep-seated hot spots.

The pump unit and its operation are also the same in all three vehicles: the powerful Rosenbauer N35 normal pressure pump, an FPN10-3000 is installed and is operated in accordance with EN 1028 via high-resolution, bright 10" displays with touch function, which are mounted both in the rear (equipment compartment 7) and in the driver's cab (dashboard).

Turret, wetting agent, self-protection

Florian Oldenburg Land 18-26-2, the TLF 4000 Troop is also equipped with a water-foam monitor mounted on the superstructure roof, which can be controlled electronically from the cab. This allows vegetation fires to be fought from a safe distance without having to exit the vehicle. The RM25C turret has a capacity of up to 2,500 liters (water or water-foam compound mixture) and the throw range is approx. 70 meters in water mode and approx. 50 meters in foam mode.

This vehicle is also equipped with the RFC Admix Variomatic pressure proportioning system, which can be used to generate wetting agent as well as light, medium, and heavy foam (the proportioning ratio is continuously adjustable between 0.1 and 6 %).

The Variomatic provides foam from the discharge outlets that the fire service wants to use in the field, the others can be operated in parallel with water. The water pump remains free of foam compound.

The pressure proportioning system is electrically driven and electronically controlled, is available in three sizes (maximum pump outputs: 12 l/min, 24 l/min and 48 l/min), and can be configured as a single or multi-channel system with up to four injection points and individually adjusted proportioning ratios.

Also part of the forest fire equipment of the troop vehicle is the self-protection system, which consists of undertruck nozzles in front of the front axle and protects the vehicle, when it is driven over a burning verge, for example. The TLF 4000 Troop, which weighs around 18 tons, is mounted on an all-terrain, robust four-wheel chassis so that it can also safely drive over rough terrain.

Newly designed AT superstructure

The three vehicles of the Wildeshausen fire service are the first in Germany to be built by Rosenbauer on a Scania chassis (P410 XT) with the further developed AT superstructure (AT Facelift). Its outwardly visible hallmarks are the redesigned roof gallery, a new cab superstructure with integrated warning lights, the revised docking panel between driver's and crew cab, a new rear light design, and a comprehensive new lighting package based on modern high-performance LED strips.

This includes homogeneous interior lighting of the crew cab and equipment compartments as well as glare and shadow-free close-range and scene lighting, some of which is integrated into the roof gallery to save space. Another new feature is the colored LED strip mounted along the entire length of the roof gallery, which flashes along with the warning lights.

Tried and tested interior features

The tried and tested interior features of the AT include, above all, the crew cab integrated into the superstructure. Both the HLF 20 and the LF 20 of the Wildeshausen fire service are designed as a twin cab for up to six emergency crew members, with all seats equipped with 3-point safety belts and the four outer seats additionally equipped with airbags and belt tensioners.

Six SCBA holders are installed in each of the two cabs (two against, four in the direction of travel), and they are also equipped with independently powered heaters. The rotating steps under the crew cab doors are also included in the standard repertoire of the AT. They lock in any door position and allow safe and comfortable entry and exit even with heavy breathing protection gear and when the door is half open.

Three vehicles, each with individual strengths and all with the same basic extinguishing technology and operable in the same way - the new fire brigade of the Wildeshausen fire service is something to behold.

With this trio, the emergency crews are well equipped for all fire events and can also cope with the failure of a vehicle more easily because the equipment is standardized. Commissioned in spring, the new fire brigade has already passed its baptism of fire with flying colors in multiple operations.

The Wildeshausen Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for the town of the same name in Lower Saxony with 20,000 inhabitants and the rural municipality of Düngstrup. It operates from two stations and has around 125 members on active duty, more than half of whom come from its own youth fire brigade.
