FSA wildland fire classes meet all National Wildland Coordinating Group standards
As areas of the West continue to struggle with drought conditions, another year of tinder dry grass and the threat of large wildland fires await.
The University of Nevada, Reno Fire Science Academy (FSA) offers a set of Wildland Fire classes which meet all applicable National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards.
The FSA's Wildland Fire curriculum consists of Wildland Firefighter (FFT I), NWCG S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior, NWCG S- 230 Crew Boss/Single Resource, and NWCG S- 231 Engine Boss/Single Resource. Each of these classes may be taken individually or as an entire block. Students who successfully complete one or all of the courses and the subsequent position task book will receive the FSA NWCG-compliant Red Card displaying the updated qualifications. The FSA offers wildland fire courses year-round.
Courses can be delivered at the FSA's Carlin, Nev., campus, and the FSA can contract to provide existing or customized courses off campus at corporate or industrial facilities to meet individual needs.
