The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) will host its inaugural Recruitment and Retention Experience on September 17-18, 2021, in Cleveland, OH. This interactive educational and networking conference is open to all volunteer firefighters and EMS providers nationwide, with sessions targeted toward department leadership and recruitment officers.

Registration for the same has begun as space is limited.

Safety and Health focused conferences

The NVFC Recruitment and Retention Experience builds on the success of the health and safety-focused NVFC Training Summit conference series. The new recruitment and retention-focused event is an opportunity for fire and EMS personnel from across the country to participate in valuable classroom training as well as exchange ideas and best practices with their peers.

Subject matter experts will lead keynotes, breakout sessions, and interactive conversations on critical volunteer staffing topics, including work-life balance, utilizing social media, marketing, fire department culture, leadership development, and teamwork. The full agenda is available on the company’s website.

Travel stipends available

The registration fee for the Experience is $129, which includes two days of training from industry leaders, a networking reception with vendor expo, and most meals.

To help more first responders attend, a travel stipend is available for select attendees. Stipends will be awarded on a monthly basis, with deadlines on the first of the month from June-August.

The stipend will reimburse a total of up to $750, which can include conference hotel room, round-trip economy airfare, cab/shuttle fare, mileage, and the event registration fee. Full details and criteria are available on the application form. To be considered eligible for the travel stipend, one must be a current member of the NVFC.
