Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation company, received an order for five Pierce Arrow XT custom pumpers from the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service in Birmingham, Alabama. This is the second major order of Pierce Arrow XT pumpers by the department, which purchased its first Pierce pumpers in 2009.

“These trucks will be around for a long time, and will play an important role in improving our department’s response capabilities,” said Fire Chief Ivor J. Brooks of the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service. “Our firefighters are proud when they roll up on a Pierce. In our minds, they’re the best of the best.”

“The Arrow XT is engineered for reliable performance in the most challenging environments,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “This follow-up order of five Arrow XT pumpers is an excellent case study in the chassis’ real world performance in demanding urban areas.”

The five pumpers are each outfitted with a 10-inch raised roof cab, seating for six firefighters, Command Zone advanced electronics and control system, a 450 hp Detroit DD13 engine, 1500-gpm single stage pump, a 500-gallon water tank, a 19-inch extended front bumper, a wide range of compartments with adjustable shelves and slide-out trays, and LED scene lighting on all sides of the apparatus.

“Over the last four years, our Arrow XTs have proven themselves to be powerful, maneuverable, and reliable,” added Chief Brooks. “We have many narrow and hilly streets, as well as lots of manufacturing areas and a busy downtown. The Arrow XTs – with the big block Detroit DD13 engines – are up to the challenges we face.”

Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service is comprised of 648 firefighters responding from 31 fire stations. The full service department features HazMat teams, a full service EMS Division (including Advanced Life Support), a technical rescue team, and a comprehensive Fire Prevention Division.

Pierce dealer Emergency Equipment Professionals, Inc. of Pelham, Alabama provides local service and support.
