Mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner visited the WAGNER Group stand during the Hamburg Logistics Days (21 and 22 February) 2018.
The Tyrolean was on-site during the 16th edition of the event as a brand ambassador for the Gütegemeinschaft Paletten eV - among other things to present his book of the same name "Wild", published in 2017, during the lecture "Wild - the last trip on earth".
oxygen reduction
Beforehand, Messner stopped at the WAGNER stand. There, the extreme mountaineer had the principle of oxygen reduction for fire protection explained to him.
"Reinhold Messner was very interested in our fire protection solution with oxygen reduction," says Michael Kind, Branch Manager in Hanover/Hamburg.
oxygen-poor air from mountaineering
He was the first person to climb many eight-thousanders without additional oxygen from bottles
Messner is of course familiar with oxygen-poor air from mountaineering: he was the first person to climb many eight-thousanders without additional oxygen from bottles. But he is also familiar with oxygen-poor air from fruit growing.
Together with his family, he runs a farm in Vinschgau (South Tyrol) where grain, vegetables, and fruit are grown. Oxygen reduction is used in agriculture to preserve food.
low oxygen levels in mountain climbing
"The fact that fires cannot develop or spread if the oxygen content in the protected area is reduced was an interesting aspect of the use of oxygen reduction for Mr. Messner," says Michael Kind.
Similarly low oxygen levels as in mountain climbing: Michael Kind, head of the Hanover and Hamburg branches, explains to mountaineer Reinhold Messner the principle of oxygen reduction for fire protection.
Reinhold Messner
Frank Hastedt, Hero-Andree Mammen, and Michael Kind welcome mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner at the WAGNER stand at the 16th Hamburg Logistics Days.
Looking back, the Hamburg Logistics Days were a success for visitors and exhibitors, and not just because of Reinhold Messner’s visit. The WAGNER employees and the organizers agree on this.
