EMS World magazine has selected Opticom™ Analytics as a 2017 Innovation Award winner. Opticom Analytics is a web-based platform that can help provide first responders with details about pre-emption system performance by using GPS data collected from emergency vehicles, explained GTT’s product manager Chad Mack.

Bottlenecks and intersection conflicts can make responding to an emergency more dangerous and slow,” Mack said. “Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption can help to speed up responses and minimise risks, but many departments don’t have the data to justify the value of this crucial technology. Opticom Analytics can help departments assess intersection performance, reveal problem areas and make corrections to provide a faster, safer emergency response.”

The award was announced in December 2017 after a month-long review process by judges from EMS World magazine and interviews at the annual EMS World Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, said Jon Bassett, the magazine’s editorial director.

Independent Jusgs Panel

An independent panel of judges consisting of EMS World editorial advisory board members and EMS World Expo faculty met one-on-one with company representatives to see demonstrations of each entry, learn about their application and determine whether they were worthy of this esteemed honour,” Bassett wrote in a press release announcing the awards.

Travelling lights-and-sirens to an emergency call puts a lot of people at risk,” the judges wrote. “We certainly have seen intersection accidents that have cost responders and bystanders their lives. This system allows first responder agencies the ability to minimise damage to vehicles—but, more important, loss of life.” Opticom Analytics is part of the Opticom Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption platform. Opticom Analytics compiles data uploaded from vehicle equipment and presents the information as a summary and map interface. Users can sort and view performance metrics based on date, speed, travel time, vehicle type, pre-emption usage and more. Opticom Analytics gives departments the information they need to maximise their pre-emption system, enabling them to arrive quickly and safely at the scene of an emergency.

Recognising first responder technology innovators

Judges for the award recognised the significant impact this technology can have on first responders travelling to an emergency.

The EMS World Innovation Award recognises companies who have produced innovative new products or products that have seen significant changes in the previous 12 months. Last year marked the 29th edition of the EMS World conference and exhibition, with more than 5,500 professionals from 45 countries in attendance.

Global Traffic Technologies (GTT) is a world leader in priority control and traffic sensing systems, with thousands of implementations of its acclaimed Opticom Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption (EVP) solutions installed internationally.
