North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service road rescue team, the team can handle real life emergencies as well as global competitive challenges
The fire and rescue team will represent their country in New Zealand

Following last week’s spectacular road safety "car drop" event in Eggborough, which was organised and run by North Yorkshire Fire Service’s specialist road rescue team, the team will shortly be travelling to New Zealand to represent the UK at the World Rescue Challenge.

The World Rescue Challenge is a highly regarded event that brings together the best road rescue teams from around the world. At the event each team is faced with a number of realistic road accident scenario’s and scored as to their technical skills, trauma care and rescue abilities.  North Yorkshire will represent the UK as the current National Champions and will be looking to build on their success and become recognised as the best road rescue team in the world.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Chris Anderson said “Such events are an important means for us to not only test our abilities but to learn new techniques and identify new equipment all of which will eventually benefit our local communities as we will be better prepared to deal with real life emergencies as a result.

“The team work really hard and have put in a lot of their own time to reach the standard they are now at, they also dedicate their efforts and time to road safety, as can be seen from last week’s event around drink driving. In support of the work of the team and to extend the benefits both the Service and community gains from their professionalism we are currently looking for company sponsors to support and promote the work of the team. So if there is anyone out there that wants to sponsor the team we would like to hear from them.”
