The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) elected Patrick J. Morrison to its board of directors at the association’s annual Conference & Expo in San Antonio. The three-year term for each member takes effect upon the close of the conference. Three existing board members, Hatem Kheir, Teresa L. Deloach Reed, and Stacy N. Welch were re-elected to a second three-year term.
General President At IAFF
Morrison serves as assistant to the general president for occupational health, safety, and medicine at the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), where he is responsible for the management and direction of daily division operations, development and implementation of the fire service occupational health and safety standards, as well as various IAFF training programs.
Prior to his tenure with IAFF, Morrison spent 20 years with the Fairfax (Va.) County Fire and Rescue Department.
While there, he was deployed to Ground Zero, New York City, immediately following the disaster to coordinate a critical incident stress team, and worked with 9/11 emergency response personnel and victims to provide a variety of immediate physical needs.
Fire Fighter of the Year
Morrison is preceptor faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, sits on the Board of Directors of the Safety Equipment Institute, is a CDC Public Council Safety Sector Member, and the Fairfax County (Va.) Civil Service Commissioner.
Morrison has also been recognized by the Virginia General Assembly (Resolution No. 492) for his efforts in the aftermath of 9/11 “… for his selfless and devoted service to the members of the Fire Department…,” honored as Fire Fighter of the Year by the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters Association, and received two career achievement awards from Fairfax (Va.) County Fire and Rescue Department.
