Netatmo, a pioneer in smart objects for a safer and more comfortable home, announces the availability of its Smart Smoke Alarm on October 8, 2018. The new product can be pre-ordered starting from now. In the UK 41% of primary fires, happen in homes and 20% of English people rate the risk of fire as their second source of concern, after burglaries, while they are not home.

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm offers higher security and comfort while giving the user a peace of mind when they leave home. Act faster during a fire with real-time alerts. The reaction time during a fire is crucial to prevent a disaster; it takes less than 30 seconds for a small flame to turn into a major fire.

Preventing Fire From Spreading

Users can use the Smart Smoke Alarm’s ‘Hush’ feature to silence it using their phone

To maximize the user’s time, The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm triggers an alarm of 85 dB and sends a real-time alert to a user’s smartphone. It also indicates the room in which it detects the smoke through a notification: ‘Smoke detected in the living room’. These functions allow the users to act immediately despite their location: they can call firefighters to intervene immediately and thereby prevent a fire from spreading and destroying their home.

Users can use the Smart Smoke Alarm’s ‘Hush’ feature to silence it using their phone. They can also do it directly from the device. While manufacturers recommend changing all smoke detectors after ten years, many devices only have batteries that last one to three years which does not cover the recommended period. Thanks to its long-lasting battery, the Smart Smoke Alarm is convenient and effortless with a battery life of 10 years.

Triggering An Audible Alarm

In addition, it sends the user a notification to change it before reaching its lifespan. This decade autonomy removes the risk of a fire without detection due to dead batteries. The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm has a self-test feature that constantly checks to make sure that the smoke sensor, the battery and the Wi-Fi connection work properly. Users can access the verification report on the Security app.

As recommended on a yearly basis, users can test the device’s sound manually or remotely from the app which will trigger an audible alarm. The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm works wirelessly and installs quickly. Simply screw it to the ceiling, follow Netatmo's installation recommendations listed in the packaging and then download the Netatmo Security app. Homeowners can install as many Smart Smoke Alarms as they want and can access all of them from the Netatmo Security app.

Creating Custom Scenarios

Users can simply ask Siri if there is smoke in their home or if the detector's batteries are working properly

Each detector can be named according to its location (‘Living Room Detector’, ‘Children's Room Detector’ etc.). The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm is compatible with Apple's HomeKit and can be voice controlled. Users can simply ask Siri if there is smoke in their home or if the detector's batteries are working properly.

The smoke detector is also compatible with IFTTT. Users can connect their Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm with other connected devices and create custom scenarios. For example, users can connect their smart lights to their smoke detector to change their color in case of a fire and alert the family to leave the home quickly.
