On June 24, 2021, the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) voted to award Accreditation to the Upton Police Department for another three-year period. Under Chief Michael Bradley’s leadership, the town has received its fourth consecutive three-year award for full Accreditation by MPAC (2012, 2015, 2018 and 2021).
“Our residents can be assured that the men and women of the Upton Police Department hold themselves to the highest of standards in law enforcement,” said Maureen Dwinnell, Board of Selectmen Chair at the MPAC, adding “On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, I want to thank Chief Bradley for his leadership and ongoing dedication to this community.”
Accreditation, a self-initiated evaluation process
Accreditation is a self-initiated evaluation process, by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards
Accreditation is a self-initiated evaluation process, by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession. These carefully selected standards reflect critical areas of police management, operations, and technical support activities.
They cover areas, such as policy development, emergency response planning, training, communications, property and evidence handling, use of force, vehicular pursuit, prisoner transportation and holding facilities.
Standard for law enforcement profession
The program not only sets standards for the law enforcement profession, but also for the delivery of police services to citizens of the commonwealth.
“The process of achieving and maintaining Accreditation has been a road map for our success in policy development, professional standards and community engagement,” said Police Chief Michael Bradley, adding “I am fortunate to be supported by a team of dedicated professionals in the Police and Communications Department that strive for continuous improvement in the delivery of police services to our community.”
The Upton Police Department will undergo a mid-term review during this three year for its accreditation maintenance.
