The launch of the new digital infrastructure 1Network using a Sepura SRH TETRA hand-held radio in Malaysia

A critical component of 1Network is the Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) developed by Sapura

The new digital system can integrate communications, information, resources and assets of various organisations into one unified platform.

On the occasion of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition, Malaysia (LIMA), which took place from 1st to the 5th December, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak launched the new digital infrastructure 1Network using a Sepura SRH TETRA hand-held radio. 1Network was developed by Sapura, Sepura's strategic partner in Malaysia.

This new digital system can integrate communications, information, resources and assets of various organisations into one unified platform, enabling faster communication links and improving operations. A major critical component of 1Network is the Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) - also developed by Sapura - which is the secure nationwide TETRA network currently used by more than ten Malaysian government agencies; from security, public safety and emergency to first responders and law enforcement organisations.

To date, Sepura has supplied over 30,000 SRH hand-held and SRG mobile TETRA terminals to the GIRN network

To date Sepura has supplied over 30,000 SRH hand-held and SRG mobile TETRA terminals to the GIRN network, making Sepura the principal supplier of TETRA radios to the GIRN. The equipment includes hand-held and mobile radios in a variety of configurations - vehicle, motorbike, marine and desktop installations. Sepura's market leading SRG Gateway radio effectively extends the network's reach in areas of limited coverage by acting as a relay point for the hand-held terminals.

Doug Bowden, Senior Business Development Manager for Sepura, said: "At LIMA, eight national user agencies were "live" on the GIRN network at Sapura's booth using Sepura hand-held and desk-mounted terminals. LIMA, one of the major defence exhibitions world-wide, was the perfect platform to showcase our terminals which were also used by all Sapura staff at the event."

Datuk Shahril Shamsuddin, Sapura Group President & CEO commented, "GIRN is a secure unified nationwide communications network now being used by more than ten government agencies. Eight of those agencies were at the Sapura booth demonstrating the GIRN to be the most effective communication solution to deal with any critical situation."

In October this year, on the occasion of Sepura's office opening in Kuala Lumpur, Sapura received the official re-certification to service, repair and provide technical support for Sepura radios in Malaysia.
