The Board of Supervisors honored the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) as the winner of the Chair’s inaugural Challenge for the “Platform to Dream” youth leadership and mentoring program. In partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and the County Office of Education, “Platform to Dream” is geared toward helping transitional age youth (16-24) pursue careers in public safety.

The goal of the program is to create a pathway to connect youth with resources to combat obstacles, such as housing, mental health, transportation and childcare. The Platform to Dream program provides the opportunity for youth to fully experience what it takes to become a firefighter, lifeguard or dispatcher.

“We are here to make a difference in people’s lives, and we are honored to receive this award,” said Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby.
