LENZING™ Lyocell and LENZING™ Modal fibers are highly suitable for use in a wide variety of coated fabric applications. Due to their versatility as blending partners, LENZING™ branded lyocell and modal fibers are incorporated in flexible abrasive cloths as well as in reinforcement fabrics for mechanical rubber goods.

Moreover, they already have proved their versatility and performance of coated fabrics. The strength, reliability, and thermal stability of LENZING™ Lyocell fibers complement their resistance to chemical degradation by organic solvents, fuels, and oils.

Various mechanical applications

This contributes to a longer lifespan in various mechanical applications. With this, Lenzing is proud to announce a new collaboration with Covestro and with Trans-Textil GmbH, where they can develop and expand the projects with vast growing potential.

With 2018 sales of EUR 14.6 billion, Covestro is among the global polymer companies. Business activities are focused on the manufacture of high-tech polymer materials and the development of innovative solutions for products used in many areas of daily life. Together with Lenzing, the collaboration ushered in environmentally compatible polyurethane (PU) synthetics for the shoe industry.

Providing functional fabrics

Covestro brings its expertise as a raw material specialist for PU textile coatings

The expertise of both partners complements each other perfectly: Covestro brings its expertise as a raw material specialist for PU textile coatings, which are based on water-based INSQIN® technology. Lenzing offers its unique expertise in the production of fibers, a wood-based material that is both renewable and natural. This collaboration provides an outstanding example of ‘Sustainability through Innovation’ or, for short: ‘Sustainnovation.’

Trans-Textil GmbH is one of Europe's innovation pioneers in the field of laminating, coating, and providing functional fabrics. Topaz™ functional fabrics are used in weather-proof textiles, workwear, fashion, sport, and leisure fields and for medical and a range of technical applications. Trans-Textil GmbH have generated breathable imitation leather on solvent-free aqueous coating basis.

Combining functional performance

Purely water-based components are just the starting point for AQUAIR®, the highly breathable imitation leather by Trans-Textil GmbH. Managing Director of Trans-Textil GmbH, Wilhelm Krings stated, “The unique combination of AQUAIR® and the sustainable TENCEL™ fibers of Lenzing Group bring together two strong technologies, which combine functional performance in respect of breathability, wearing comfort and moisture management demanding a high environmental performance.”

The special microporous polyurethane structure of AQUAIR® is permeable for water vapor and thus ensures higher comfort in connection with individually selected textiles. Optionally, the AQUAIR® products can also be finished with Trans-Textil GmbH’s breathable and waterproof membrane systems. Both these collaborations are hugely exciting for Lenzing, as they enable Lenzing to drive sustainability in the sector and unleash its great potentials in the market. With the combined efforts, Lenzing can further promote the use of sustainable products and environmental awareness.
