People living in Kent and Medway can now check if their homes are fire safe in just 15 minutes, thanks to a new online tool.

While Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) offers home visits for people most at risk of having a fire, the online home safety checker has been created to give everyone access to a free home assessment and personalized fire safety advice.

KFRS website and residents can work their way through a selection of simple questions

The new online tool is available via the KFRS website and residents can work their way through a selection of simple questions, which will generate practical guidance tailored to their home.

Topics covered include the type of property, how many people live there, the volume of belongings and how they’re stored, how the home is heated, and details of any previous fires in the property.

At the end, based on the answers submitted, households that would benefit from further support in the form of an in-person visit from the fire service, will be automatically contacted by KFRS’ home safety team.

Author's quote

KFRS’ Customer Safety Lead - Chloe Julian said: “We’re really pleased to be teaming up with the National Fire Chiefs Council and the national Fire Kills campaign, to bring this handy online tool to the people of Kent and Medway, to help keep everyone safe."

Chloe Julian adds, “It’s so easy to use and residents will be able to download or print off the advice, presented in a personal action plan that’s created specifically to suit their home and circumstances.”
