The Housing Select Committee is encouraging written evidence to help its scrutiny of the government’s approach to getting developers to fund the costs of remediating building safety defects.

Since the government changed its approach to funding the cost of fixing building safety defects by going after the developers and manufacturers of construction products such as cladding and insulation, the Housing Select Committee will look at the effectiveness and impact of its approach.

funding arrangement

The scrutiny will include looking at whether Housing Secretary, Michael Gove, is going far enough to fix the crisis. It will examine what the funding arrangement to be agreed with the industry should look like.

To assist the committee in its work, it is seeking written evidence and will also be taking oral evidence soon. The inquiry is looking for information on these points:

  • What is an assessment of the government’s announcements on 10 January regarding building safety?
  • Do the announcements go far enough, and what, if anything is missing?
  • What are the potential impacts of the announcements? In the case of negative impacts, how can they be addressed?
  • How might the announcements affect the wider objectives of the Housing Department, including the building of affordable housing?
  • What to see in the funding arrangement to be agreed with the industry?
