In the world, countries have two great challenges in terms of security in relation to protection and combat against the harmful effects of fires.

The first has to do with a macro issue and is what each Nation-State has to do to help stop the process of deterioration due to climate change that the world experiencing, where the data tells us that the average temperature of the planet has increased 1.18 degrees Celsius, since the end of the 19th century and if this trend continues, the consequences for the planet would be unimaginable, entire cities could disappear, even in the worst case - it could end up with life on the planet. .

The global effects of climate change

The world is already seeing the effects of climate change, including droughts, forest fires, more intense storms

The world is already seeing the effects of climate change, including droughts, forest fires, more intense storms, water and food shortages, displacement of populations, among others.

The second task is related to the fact that the federal, state and municipal governments must promote the use and adoption of norms and laws that contribute to avoiding human losses and material losses due to issues related to fires or electrical issues, in buildings, houses, factories, hospitals, schools, shops and offices.

Worldwide effort needed to counter global warming

The first task has to do with a worldwide effort, which involves nations to apply drastic and severe measures at the internal level that contribute to drastically reducing global warming, while the second has to do with an issue more at the federal legislation of each country, where the government, associations and civil society must go hand-in-hand to seek to implement a National Fire Code that serves as a framework, so that the state and municipal entities of the country have a point of reference to adopt it at the national level.

National Fire Code

To achieve the above, it is important to carry out a planning, execution and evaluation process, and within the planning it is very important to develop this National Fire Code, which is a tool that improves fire protection conditions for people and of the assets.

In this way, the adoption of engineering practices based on clear and precise rules that allow the development of safe environments, where fire risks are controlled and mitigated, is promoted.

Need for stronger fire protection regulations

For this reason, the effort made by ANRACI to achieve this objective is to be applauded

In Colombia, there is currently a situation calling for a need to push the government, associations and society to adopt a public policy, in order to strengthen the concept of human security, in relation to protection against fires.

It is an opportunity to be able to land the expectation that for many years has been has raised and a key issue to reduce deaths from fires or electrical hazards is planning, which is the process and result of organizing a series of steps that contribute to achieving this noble objective, the goal is to protect lives. For this reason, the effort made by ANRACI to achieve this objective is to be applauded.

NFPA 1 - code of excellence or the fire code

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has put to consideration the NFPA 1, which is known as the code of excellence or the fire code, which is universally applicable and which emerged in the seventies due to the need to have a document that would cover all aspects of fire prevention and protection in any city.

It is clear that as long as governments do not take serious measures, such as the adoption or implementation of a National Fire Code, the world will continue in a situation that will continue to cost the lives of many people, so it is time to act now.
