With an output of 335 lumens, the non-maintained luminaires have a rugged die cast aluminium housing, which dissipates heat from the LEDs
Luminaries make Hochiki's FIREscape emergency lighting system suitable for use in open space applications

Hochiki Europe, the leading manufacturer of innovative life safety solutions, introduces two new high output luminaires that will make its FIREscape emergency lighting system suitable for use in an even wider variety of high-risk and open space applications.

In order to adhere to BS 5266-1, the Code of Practice for emergency lighting, using products that offer the correct lux level is a must, and a minimum of 1lux in escape routes and 0.5lux in open areas is recommended. However, it also recommends illumination to 5lux for disabled refuge and doors with crash bars or other security devices, whilst high-risk areas such as kitchens, plant rooms and first aid rooms, a 15lux minimum is suggested.

To address this Hochiki Europe has developed the EL-DL2H and EL-DL3H high output luminaires to be used with its FIREscape emergency lighting solution. Based on light emitting diode (LED) technology, the EL-DL2H addressable corridor downlight features one high-powered LED with a specially engineered dual surface free-form optic. The unit’s body contains a three-hour standby battery and features a bi-coloured LED that indicates charge/fault status.

With the same industry leading features as the EL-DL2H, the EL-DL3H addressable open space downlight is designed for use in a variety of large area applications, such as warehouses and swimming pools, where it can be mounted up to 9m high and still provide the required lux level on the floor.

With an output of 335 lumens, these non-maintained luminaires have a rugged die cast aluminium housing, which dissipates heat from the LEDs and enhances their thermal management properties. Fitting them couldn’t be simpler and the units can be installed directly onto a standard Hochiki sensor base (YBN-R/3).

Completely unique, FIREscape is manufactured in the UK and is EN 50172 compliant. The system’s luminaires and signage are connected via low voltage (40V) cabling and this is all powered and configured on the same loop via a single panel, giving high levels of control via an automatic system. FIREscape also boasts excellent green credentials and is manufactured using fully recyclable materials that do not place an unnecessary burden on the environment. Due to its use of low voltage cabling, costs are also reduced by 60 per cent during installation when compared to central battery based systems.

As the most intelligent emergency lighting system on the market today, Hochiki’s addressable technology means that individual luminaires can be easily controlled and tested, while the graphics software that is included with the system provides a simple method of monitoring the condition of the LEDs and batteries.

‘Since its launch in 2010, the response to FIREscape has been tremendous and has clearly demonstrated the requirement for a high quality, energy efficient emergency lighting solution’ commented Stuart Davies, marketing manager at Hochiki Europe. ‘The addition of the EL-DL2H and EL-DL3H high output luminaires is part of our ongoing commitment to developing the FIREscape system by making it the first choice solution for the widest variety of applications.’
