Global Traffic Technologies, LLC (GTT) staff head to North Carolina next week to discuss how Opticom Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) and a new analytics tool can help reduce response times and increase safety for fire departments.

The Fire-Rescue International (FRI) event – slated for July 26-29 at the Charlotte Convention Center -– is the annual conference and expo of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. FRI has a 140-year history of providing senior-level leadership training to fire chiefs, and attracts the world’s leading experts in the first responder community.

Improving emergency services

GTT delegates will demonstrate how fire departments can harness data related to their emergency response trips and use it to make operational improvements.

GTT’s Christian Kulus, a product development systems architect, said, “We’re looking forward to attending FRI 2017 and talking to the international fire industry about EVP, as well as the way our Opticom Analytics software can provide powerful data to improve the way emergency services operate when responding to incidents.”

Opticom Analytics software

Opticom Analytics is a new software tool which helps departments assess intersection performance, reveal problem areas and make corrections to provide a faster, safer emergency response. Data logs from the vehicle equipment are securely uploaded to the analytics platform via a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. The information is then compiled into a web-based application that can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. Users can sort and view performance metrics based on date, speed, travel time, vehicle type, preemption usage and more, and can consequently make adjustments to improve operational productivity and response performance.

Opticom EVP system

GTT’s Opticom EVP system works alongside intersection controllers to help ensure emergency vehicles can move through intersections rapidly and without incident. When an emergency vehicle needs to navigate an intersection, the Opticom system on-board the vehicle sends a request to the intersection’s controller ahead of its arrival, which requests a green light, clearing a path to enable the vehicle’s expedited passage.
