The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce recently honored Gilbert Fire and Rescue Chief - Rob Duggan at their 2024 Annual Awards Luncheon. The event celebrates the accomplishments of community leaders and volunteers. Finalists and award recipients are nominated by members of the local business community.
Chief Duggan received the 2024 Gilbert Leadership Alumni Award for representing the highest level of dedication to the program’s values and to the community. The Gilbert Leadership Steering Committee selects the recipient for this award each year.

“Since graduating Class 25, Rob Duggan has obtained a master’s degree in public policy through Park University, completed the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy, was promoted to Fire Chief, and has continued to focus on building relationships, both within his department and the organization and throughout the community,” said Sarah Watts, President and CEO of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce.
Chief Duggan has led the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department since July 2022
Chief Duggan has led the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department since July 2022. Under his direction and guidance, GFRD earned the Certified Autism Center designation, recognizing 80% or more of the department’s staff has been trained in how to communicate with and respond to community members with autism.
In addition, GFRD became the first fire department in Arizona to put an electric fire truck into service.
Veteran of the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department
As a 25-year veteran of the department, Chief Duggan has dedicated his career to ensuring the safety of the Gilbert community. Prior to his current role, he oversaw Gilbert Fire and Rescue’s Data & Technology, Employee Wellness, Fire Resource, Community Risk Reduction, Fire Prevention, and Training divisions.
Chief Duggan and his family have called Gilbert home since 2002.
