The MD1 and CheckMate are designed for first responders and for emergency preparedness |
FoxFury Lighting Solutions has officially released its Rook MD1 and Checkmate compact LED flashlights.
These are the first commercially available flashlights to intentionally resemble a chess piece. The MD1 and CheckMate are extremely bright (up to 600 torch lumen) and feature a rounded square anti-roll head with a strike bezel. These may look like pieces from a game but these are serious lights designed for first responders (including law enforcement) and for emergency preparedness or general use.
The combination of a powerful CREE LED and deep reflector create a tight beam. The MD1 is 220 torch lumen with an 8 degree beam while the CheckMate punches out a blistering 600 torch lumen with a 10 degree beam. Each light has a tactical switch and 3 modes: low power, turbo-strobe (varying frequency for disorientation) and maximum power.
"Customers from all over the world had been asking us for years to create bright and affordable LED flashlights that have a unique look and function. These look like rook chess pieces but we sought to create the king of all-white LED compact flashlights," said Tim Ellwood, Law Enforcement / Military Sales Manager for FoxFury.
The MD1 and CheckMate have the ability to be powered by either standard lithium (two CR123) batteries or a rechargeable Li-ion (one 18650) battery. These lights feature a strike bezel for protection and/or to break glass if needed. Both Rooks are made of aircraft-grade aluminum, are black hard anodised, and are waterproof, impact resistant, and fire resistant.
"I've been a professional flashlight user for the past 30 years and I'm not easily impressed by new lights. I literally said 'holy s&#t that's bright' the first time I turned the CheckMate on. I was truly amazed how much light could come out of such a small package," said Ellwood.
