"The Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection (vfdb) has called for international cooperation to be intensified in view of the recent serious forest fires in Greece. At the same time, the technology must be further advanced in order to detect and combat such fires at an early stage in the future,” said vfdb President Dirk Aschenbrenner.
“Time and time again - including now - there are many commendable initiatives that come to the aid of the affected emergency services in emergencies,” emphasized Aschenbrenner. “However, it would be important to organize and prepare for such cooperation even more effectively at the European level.”
Possibilities of the latest technology
Examples include the use of drones and robotics for early detection and freed firefighting
In the future, the vfdb will increasingly participate in research and development projects on the topic of “natural disasters”. This also includes effectively using the possibilities of the latest technology. Examples include the use of drones and robotics for early detection and autonomous firefighting of emerging fires.
“Unfortunately, forest fires will continue to be a natural phenomenon in the future and may even occur more frequently,” said Aschenbrenner. “That’s why we see an urgent need for action here. This also applies to other natural disasters and other major disasters.”
