Sian Griffiths, one of the first women firefighters in the country, has been awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal (QFSM) for distinguished service in the 12th June Birthday Honors List.
The Queen's Fire Service Medal is awarded by Her Majesty the Queen to those members of the fire service who have exhibited exceptional contribution and devotion to duty or acts of gallantry.
Sian joined the Brigade as a firefighter in 1985 and is now the station manager at Shadwell fire station, making her one of a handful of women in charge of a fire station.
Sian Griffiths said: "I am very pleased to receive this award. I have certainly seen significant progress in the area of equality in the fire service during my 25 year career but we still have a way to go. I am passionate to help create a workplace that truly embraces fairness and equality. This will ensure that we develop a workforce that fully represents the community we serve."
London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: "This award is a reflection of the tremendous work that Sian has done throughout her career and especially her efforts in raising awareness and acceptance of women in the fire service. I am delighted that she has been recognized in this significant way."
