The FireQual Awarding Organization is proud to announce that they have achieved Ofqual approval. FireQual shall now be offering both Ofqual and SQA Regulated Qualifications for individuals working in the fire safety industry.

Lewis Ramsay, FireQual Chair, said: “This is a great milestone for FireQual, and we thank Ofqual for recognizing that making fire safety qualifications as accessible as possible for the industry is an important aspect to benefit the future safety of the built environment. We strongly believe that competency requirements are only going to increase moving forward, and individuals working in this sector will be required to first and foremost demonstrate their appropriate knowledge to underpin any work that is performed.”

Regulated fire safety qualifications

Justin Maltby-Smith, BAFE and FireQual Managing Director commented: “This is a huge achievement for FireQual, and we are delighted to have been awarded this recognition. FireQual already delivers nationally recognized Regulated Qualifications via SQA, however achieving Ofqual approval further supports the sector to develop additional avenues that provide access to regulated fire safety qualifications.”

Douglas Barnett, BAFE Chair, added: “It has been a lengthy process to achieve Ofqual, and we are extremely proud to gain this approval. FireQual will now be developing additional qualifications to build on the individual competence requirements that are being introduced into the fire sector. BAFE will continue to introduce the requirement of regulated qualifications for individuals working within an organization looking to achieve or maintain their BAFE Scheme Registration.”

Qualification Specification contains both a knowledge component and a practical component

It is important that a regulated qualification meets the needs of practitioners. FireQual’s approach to both new and reviewed existing qualifications, is that wherever appropriate, the Qualification Specification contains both a knowledge component and a practical component.

This gives both learners and the wider marketplace the confidence that someone possessing a FireQual qualification has demonstrated that not only do they have the appropriate knowledge, but also the relevant skills that relate to this.

Ofqual Regulated Qualifications

FireQual looks forward to working with additional training providers across the UK that have expressed their interest in delivering Ofqual Regulated Qualifications to add strengthened credibility and rigor to their current training offerings.

This is a huge step in the process of offering more FireQual Approved Training Centers for individuals looking to demonstrate their knowledge, a key element of the wider demonstration of competency to work in the fire safety industry.
