The new Mystique Community Ice Center opened its doors in Dubuque, Iowa just in time to meet the chill that’s in the air. Home to the United States Hockey League’s expansion team, the Fighting Saints, the 3,200 seat arena is dedicated to all things ice.

Since the Ice Center, like any sporting venue, may contain large amounts of people at any given time, the Local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) required a voice evacuation system to be included in the overall life safety solution provided during the construction of the facility.

Fike’s Integrated Voice Evacuation System

CyberCat is a fully digital system designed to respond to situations faster than the industry requires

Heartland Fire and Security, a Fike Alarm Systems distributor, proposed Fike’s UL listed Integrated Voice Evacuation System because it is not only an effective means of safely evacuating occupants during an emergency, but can provide live paging and allows for pre-recorded messages to be automatically delivered during any number of hazardous situations.

And the Integrated Voice System is designed for easy customization and seamless communication with Fike’s CyberCat® 254 fire alarm control panel. Also installed in the arena, the CyberCat is a fully digital system designed to respond to situations faster than the industry requires, in part by eliminating polling delays and interference.

Safe evacuation

Victor Obertance of Heartland Fire and Security, explained, “This fully integrated system provides a reliable means of protecting a facility … everything from automatic detection of a fire to the notification of occupants and emergency responders.”

Additionally, this system allows responders the ability to provide live instructions to assist in the safe evacuation of all occupants out of the ice arena.”

Reliable and cost-effective

Dennis Dietzel, Manager of Morse Electrical (the electrical contractor chosen to redesign the entire electrical system to meet the specifications and budget), agreed, “I had worked with Heartland Fire and Fike products in the past and thought they would offer a great solution for this job.”

The Fike Integrated Voice Evac system and the CyberCat 254 Fire Alarm system, coupled with the great service of Heartland Fire and Security, make it a no-brainer decision. When I considered all factors including functionality, reliability, service, and pricing, I knew we were making the right decision.”

Versatile and flexible solution

Fike’s Integrated Voice System is designed for distributed intelligence and built-in survivability Fike’s Integrated Voice System is designed for distributed intelligence and built-in survivability. With such features as integrated backup amplifiers and multiple levels of fault protection built-in, Fike’s system continues to operate effectively, even if one component fails for any reason.
